A space centred around you
You might have been carrying something for a long time. Somewhere along the way, you've learnt to put everyone else first, to keep going, and to wonder why life seems harder than it does for other people. Maybe you're exhausted from trying to understand yourself. Counselling can offer a place to begin to make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface. At Centred Space, I offer a relationship where you can feel genuinely heard, understood and met with warmth, curiosity and compassion.
Hello, I'm Rebecca
I'm a person-centred counsellor based in Glossop, and the person behind Centred Space Counselling.
I believe that meaningful therapeutic work begins with the relationship we create together. I'll bring my knowledge, experience, an open mind and a genuine interest in your story, while you bring your understanding of yourself. We'll explore what feels important to you and pay attention to what emerges along the way. Sometimes that might be a feeling you've struggled to put into words or something you've carried for years. Sometimes something unexpected might open up. The work is different for everyone because the relationship is unique to you.
For me, counselling has always been about the relationship between two people. There is something powerful about being genuinely listened to and having the space to explore your experience alongside someone who is curious about your world.
I bring my professional knowledge and experience to our work, but I also bring myself. I'm warm, open and naturally inquisitive. I value honesty and humour, fostering authenticity in the relationships I build.
What it might feel like to work together
Clients have told me that they value feeling genuinely listened to. Some have described feeling lighter after our conversations, or being surprised by how safe they feel talking about things that have remained hidden elsewhere. I work relationally and at your pace.
Together, we'll create space to explore your experiences with compassion. I offer a genuine willingness to understand, allowing the work to develop naturally as trust grows. I've spent years learning about the magic of therapy done well, but every therapeutic relationship is incomparable. I will bring my knowledge, experience and an open and thoughtful approach and what happens between us is something we'll discover together.
Who I work with
I work with adults experiencing a range of difficulties and life experiences, including:
Anxiety and low mood
Self-esteem and identity
Relationships
Life changes and feeling stuck
Neurodivergence and the experience of feeling different
Addiction and its emotional impact
Trauma-related experiences
You don't have to arrive knowing exactly what you need. We can begin with what brings you through the door and discover where it takes us.
A little about how I work
My approach is person-centred and relational. For me, this means creating a therapeutic relationship built on trust, respect, honesty and compassion. I believe that feeling genuinely understood can create the conditions for us to understand ourselves differently too. I'll work alongside you, bringing professional knowledge and I will take the time to understand your perspective. Sometimes there will be lots to say. Sometimes sitting with what is happening in the moment will tell us something important. We can make room for both.
